Practising Washing Hair and Drying Hair

Week 2 Practising Washing hair and drying hair- Lottie

See week 1 for notes

In week 1 I learned how to wash hair and in week 2 I practised it.

Washing hair:

Products used: Shampoo, Conditioner.
Equipment used: Sally's Afro comb.

I learned that when you wash the hair you need to use two shampoos and a conditioner to thoroughly cleanse the hair, I also learned that combing through while conditioner is in the hair makes it easily manageable when it comes to drying and managing the hair, as it has no knots.

We learned Drying hair:

How to dry the hair:

·      When the hair is still wet comb through, so it’s easier to dry.
·      Section the hair staring from the bottom, taking sides away first.
·      Use university electrics equipment.
·      Before you blow-dry the hair make sure it has most of the water out.
·      Put the nozzle on the hair dryer for more precision drying.
·      Before blow-drying the hair check that the cable has no knots in it
·      While blow-drying keep the filter at the back of the hair dryer away from the models head as it can suck up hair and get stuck.
·      Turn it on full power
·      Staring from the roots first, then dry down to the ends.
·      Use your round ceramic brush to help control your downward motions and to boost hair
·      Take dryer underneath for root boast.
·      Use the hairdryer to pick up the hair once you have blow-dried all the way down.
·      If you take your fingers through it makes you move hair around.
·      Turn temperature down when near face area, as it can become to hot.
·      The cool setting is to set the hair in position.
·      Do not touch warm hair let it cool to set.

Consultation notes:

Texture of hair:

Frizzy from roots, then curly down the bottom, has no volume.

Do you have any allergies?

No

Do you have a sensitive scalp?

No

Do you have a weave or hair extensions?

No.

Is your hair coloured or natural?

Natural.

Products used: Hair dryer, Sally's round ceramic brush and heat defence.

Sectioning the hair

Blow-drying the section

After

I learned when drying the hair for a more precision dry you use the nozzle and your round brush, use down ward motions and picking up the hair with the dryer to go along quicker. I also learned for root boast to use the round brush and take it underneath the roots, rolling the brush while you dry the roots. I think I achieved a straight and volumising look. If I were to do this again I would use a serum or more heat defence to stop the fizziness that she mentioned in her consultation notes. I would also section the hair much neater with my comb.

How to wash the hair:

·      To change the temperature of the water is at the side of the basin
·      Make sure you check behind ear for any lice, as this is a warm area where they normally stay.
·      If you need to go further back ask your model to lift head to change move the basin
·      While shampooing, if the hair does not begin to foam up just add water and more shampoo.
·      Two shampoos and 1 conditioner is required for washing the hair
·      Making sure you use a small amount of shampoo on top of hair.
·      Dandruff can be caused by not rinsing the hair enough, so make sure it is thoroughly rinsed before towel drying the hair.
