Ribbon Plaits and Twists

Week 4 Ribbon plaits and twists- Seema

·      Backcomb the hair after placing the ribbon in with a grip.
·      Start creating the plait.
·      You want the ribbon to be visible in the plait.
·      Keep picking up the ribbon, making sure it comes to the front.
·      When making a plait around the neck walk with and it will go the direction you take the hair.
·      Cut the ribbon.
·      Make a tie where you want the plait to finish.
·      If you wanted to create a plait going all round the head you would need enough ribbon to secure it by weaving it through the plait, replacing the pins they didn’t have.

Twists:

There are many ways you can twist the hair:

Twisting along the hair, wrapping it all together.
Pick up the sections of hair and entwine them together.

Or

·      You take two section of the hair.
·      Twist the both at the top in the same direction.
·      Take the right section and place it over the left and twist.
·      Keep picking up hair from the other side and twisting it round and placing the hair over.
·      Then tie at the end.

You can place it around the head, or loosen the plait making it bigger placing it around the head, or twisting your twist around then placing it on the hair creating a spiral, which can be used as a bun making it look really neat and as small as you want.

I learned how to place a ribbon is underneath and creating twists and plaits, my twist design is okay but the ribbon is coming through to much and needs to be twisting around neater. On my other design I was finding it quite difficult to plait with ribbon and that’s why the plait looks very loose and not as tight as it should be. I would practice on creating plaits with ribbons more and if I were to do this again I would make sure the designs are much neater and secured to prevent the ribbon from moving out of place.

I practised on creating plaits with ribbons more and I feel like I have developed my skills, the ribbon I used was quite thick for the hair but the actual design of wrapping it around the hair and making tightly entwined with each other has worked and securely placing the ribbon on the top of the hair to make sure it doesn’t move help me create this design.
