Plaits and Buns

Week 3 Plaits and buns- Lottie

How to create the shape of a bun:

·      Comb the hair back using half the hair.
·      Place the hair in a band to create a pony tail, for very thick hair make sure you double band
·      Spilt the pony tail into 4 even sections, if your model has very fine hair backcomb in the direction your working with
·      Wrap into a barrel curl by wrapping the hair around your fingers and securely clipping it down.
·      When clipping down the hair, use curvy grips either side to create a flat surface.
·      Use clips that are colour matching
·      Make sure the barrel curl is high up; otherwise the hair will go back on to itself.
·      Leave a gap between the sections.
·      Once the sections are done, get a pin and tease the hair over the gaps
·      When teasing the hair concentrate on the lower part of the bun.
·      After teasing the hair with the pin place it into the bun making sure its not placed at the top as it will flatten the hair
·      To grip the pin in you get a piece of hair, go up and into the bun

Equipment used: Sally’s comb, hairband, hairpins, curvy grips.

Sectioned in the bun

Once the hair has been teased

I learned how to create an all-together shaped bun by sectioning the bun into four sections then teasing the hair with a pin to create the bun shape. I liked how the bun looks and the shape is very solid with the hair being wrapped tightly.

Plaiting:

Normal Plait

·      Separate the hair into three equal amounts
·      Take the right to the middle
·      Then left to the middle
·      Keep repeating the process while tightening the plait so it’s secure.

Equipment used: Sally’s comb and hairband.

As I wasn’t that confident with creating plaits I learned how to create the basic design again. The plait is to loose so I need to practise going along making sure I plait holding it tightly so it doesn’t fall out. I also need to use a comb to section the hair more neatly to, and to use my section clips to get the hair I don’t need away from the section of hair I’m working on.

French Plaits

·      Separate hair the into three sections
·      Put the middle section over the top and add more hair doing the same technique as a normal plait

Fish tail plaits

·      Separate the hair into two sections, which are equal
·      Taking from behind the two sections either side
·      Keep adding on the sections and tightening the hair at the same time so the plaits doesn’t become loose.
