Curling Hair

Week 5 Curling hair- Lottie

We are doing spiral curls using a thin tong. These curls aren’t for volume but are tight neat curls.

· Section the hair, making sure you start at the bottom working your way up.

· Wrap the hair in tong, wrapping it around and placing it neatly into the barrel.

· You roll away from you turning to the side.

· Take it right up as close to the scalp as possible.

· Put the comb up to the scalp so you don’t go to close in but making sure you're getting the curl right up.

· Counting slowly to 12 seconds is a good time frame to make sure the curl is getting enough heat.

· Once it's been 12 seconds gently move the tong back.

· Slowly release the handle, carefully taking the hair off with your fingers in one movement.

· If you drag the hair the heat from your tong will pull the curl out.

· If you have a model with either thick or long hair that is difficult to curl, set the curls like you would in a roller with the curl itself.

· While its still warm put it back to the shape it was before in the roller, then place a grip in, the curl will cool and set itself.

· The direction of your curls, If you want the curl to go forward the barrel part will face you, if you want it to come back the other way the barrel part is facing away from you.

· When doing the top of the hair raise it up high, making the curl sit on the head.

· For spiral curls angle your tong rather than having a back curl.

· Have the comb up to the root area when doing top curls otherwise there will be a lot of drag.
